Safe Pass, manual handling & the tickets that get you hired in Ireland

For a huge number of Irish jobs, a cheap ticket is the difference between getting hired and getting passed over — and for some, it's a legal must-have. Here are the ones worth having by sector, and how to show them on your CV.

Construction & site work

A Safe Pass is legally required to work on nearly all Irish construction sites, and it's renewed every four years. Beyond that, manual handling, abrasive wheels, working at heights and plant/machine tickets (dumper, teleporter) each open up more roles and better pay.

Warehouse & logistics

Manual handling is expected. A forklift licence (counterbalance or reach) widens the jobs you qualify for and usually means higher pay — put it high on the CV.

Hospitality & food

Food-safety (HACCP) training is preferred or required for any role handling food. It's quick and cheap to complete and worth listing.

Security

A valid PSA (Private Security Authority) licence is a legal requirement for almost all security roles. It's the first thing checked, so lead with it.

Care & childcare

These roles centre on qualifications and vetting: QQI Level 5 (healthcare or early childhood), Garda Vetting, Children First and first-aid/manual-handling certs. List them with dates near the top.

How to list tickets on your CV

Give tickets their own clear section, or put the key one in your profile. Always include the real expiry date, and never list a ticket you don't hold or that has lapsed without noting it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest ticket that helps me get a job in Ireland?

Manual handling and a Food Safety (HACCP) course are among the cheapest and quickest, and they help across warehouse, hospitality, care and general roles. Safe Pass is essential specifically for construction.

How long does a Safe Pass last?

A Safe Pass card is valid for four years, after which you renew it. Always show the expiry date on your CV so employers know it's current.

Which tickets are legally required, not just nice to have?

Safe Pass for construction sites and a PSA licence for security work are legal requirements. Others (manual handling, HACCP, forklift) aren't always legally required but strongly affect who gets hired.
